T.J.L. Celebrates Flag Day!

T.J.L. had a wonderful assembly, on June 14th, in honor of Flag Day!  Select Grade 5 students read poems and essays that they wrote and everyone sang patriotic songs.  We were also very honored to have veterans from the American Legion join us as well.  It was a great way to honor our Flag and to honor all of the men and women who protect and serve our country!

Suffolk Zone Fit Kid Competition

This past Monday, May 8th, Thomas J. Lahey's Fit Club competed in the first ever "Suffolk Zone Fit Kid Competition". Each team consisted of a total of 24 students from 4th and 5th grade. Twelve elementary schools across the county competed at Lincoln Avenue Elementary school in a multitude of events. The relay consisted of 15 box jumps, flipping a tire 25 yards, 30 turns of a jump rope, and crab walking 25 yards. Along with the team relay were individual events, which consisted of sit and reach, shuttle run, plank to push-ups and sit-ups. Our athletes made us more than proud by exhibiting phenomenal sportsmanship, while participating in an extremely competitive environment. The students gave maximum effort to each challenge they faced and represented Harborfields in an exceptional fashion. We placed 3rd out of 12, which we are so excited about! Natalie Hering, a 5th grade student, placed first overall in the sit-up challenge with a remarkable 75 sit-ups in 1 minute! Sawyer Scarola, a 4th grade student, won first overall in the shuttle run with an impressive 16.2 seconds! Here are some of the photos from the event. We all had a fantastic time and hope to compete in this competition for years to come!

 Walk for a Wish - 2017

Our annual "Walk for a Wish" fundraiser was held on Saturday, April 22nd at Harborfields High School.  As in past years, all funds raised were donated to The Make a Wish Foundation of Suffolk County to support a child's wish.

We can’t thank you enough for your support of Walk for a Wish. Whether you made a donation, or walked with us on this past cold, wet Saturday, we came together as a school community to grant a child’s wish.

Many of us were fortunate enough to meet Alexa, and were inspired by her bravery and spirit.

We are thrilled to report that we raised $14,087 for the Make –A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County!

Alexa will travel to Greece with her family, as she wished, and we are very proud to be part of this! Thank you again!

Grade 5 Charity Volleyball

The TJL Physical Education Department hosted its annual 5th Grade Charity Volleyball Tournament in January. All proceeds this year went to the Renz and Schmidt Families. In addition to the registration fee each student paid to play, a concession stand was run in the cafeteria during the tournament and raffle drawings which allowed for the entire school to contribute to this worthwhile cause. Tickets were sold either individually or in bundles of 10, 20 or 40 tickets. Prizes included Sport Equipment packages, free weeks at HACEF, Booster Club and Mecurio Summer camps, iTunes gift cards, Game Stop gift cards to just to name a few. The big ticket items were the GoPro Camera and Beat Headphones. With close to 190 5th grade students participating, the concession stand and the selling of raffle tickets, the TJL Family raised close to $6,500. Mrs. Renz was able to come in at the end of January to meet some of the students who participated in this tournament and thank them personally for a job well done. The TJL Physical Education Department would like to thank Mrs. Arias and the PTA for all of their help and support during the weeks leading up to the tournament as well as the day of the tournament and the TJL Faculty and Staff for their donations to our cause this year. We would also like to personally thank Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Williams for all their support allowing us to continue to run our tournament, year in and year out, and finally to the entire TJL family (faculty, staff and students) for coming together and helping us make this year’s tournament a memorable one.
