is hard to believe that our December holiday break is just about upon
us and that we have reached the midpoint of our second quarter. There
is certainly an excitement in the building as the break nears and we
have had so many things to celebrate and students and staff to
acknowledge. The school year has certainly flown by for me and I thank you all for your hard work and your support for me personally so far. I wish you all the very best of holiday season and a very Happy New Year!

DECEMBER 14TH BOARD MEETING: It was so indicative of the type of community we have to see so many people in attendance at our December 14th Board of Education Meeting. The night was a tremendous celebration. We
had the opportunity to celebrate the retirement of our Superintendent
Diana Todaro who will be leaving us at the end of the month. Ms. Todaro
has had an exceptional career here at Harborfields and her care and
concern for the children of our schools has always been evident. She will be sorely missed but we wish her all the very best. That evening, we also had the opportunity to officially celebrate Harborfields High School’s Blue Ribbon award. It
was a fitting end for Ms. Todaro who has now seen every eligible
building in the district receive this incredibly prestigious award.
Journalism Goes to NBC Studios: The
Harborfields Journalism class attended a private tour of NBC Studios
and was able to get a look behind the scenes at the operation of a major
news network. Our morning announcement team was actually able to broadcast our daily announcements from the studio to the school that day.
Shakespeare Recitation Contest: Over
the last two months AP Literature & Composition students studied,
memorized, and performed sonnets and monologues by William Shakespeare.
The top five students from each section moved on to the 9th Annual Shakespeare Recitation finals which were held on November 22nd in the auditorium. The participants were:
determine the top two performers, the scores of the three faculty
judges (Mrs. Gavin, Ms. Thomsen & Ms. LaMantia) were combined with
audience/peer ballots. The top two performers were recognized and
received certificates from The National Endowment for the Arts. The
2016/ 2017 Shakespeare Recitation Contest winners are Sean Hurley & Emma Magnus.
