Scholarships

Why apply for scholarships?

College is expensive and scholarships are a form of FREE financial aid that does not need to be paid back! You can receive scholarships based on merit (ie: good grades or community service completed) or based on financial need. Any one can apply for scholarships, but it will be important to check the eligibility requirement for each scholarship we list on Naviance.

How to find scholarships

Scholarships will be listed on Naviance. To access them, click on the College tab. Under the Scholarships & Money section, click on Scholarship Search. This list is not exhaustive. Instead, this list will highlight local, regional, state, and national scholarships of interest. Scholarship Tips

Scholarships can be competitive, so to improve your odds of receiving this FREE money, we recommend that students apply to as many scholarships as possible in addition to filling out their financial aid applications- the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile, for the schools that require it. This will ensure that you are maximizing the amount of financial aid received to help cover the cost of college!
Tips include:
- Staying organized! Keep a google doc will of the scholarships you have applied to so you know what you have already applied for.
- Don't reinvent the wheel! Essay topics can be similar so don't be afraid to frankenstein a new essay from previous essays you have written.
- Speak to your family about connections or opportunities. Many unions or companies have scholarships available for the children of their employees!
