We may only be a month into the school year, but Harborfields High School music students have already accumulated multiple honors!

First up, thirteen students have been selected for the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME) All-County ensembles! These instrumental and vocal groups, composed of top-scoring upperclassmen NYSSMA musicians from across Suffolk, present the best of the best in music from our county. Congratulations Celia Ancona, Cello; Marty Bernstein, Trombone; Mark Carillion, Voice/Bass I; Kyleigh Connors, Trumpet; Jackson Dunham, Cello; Shea Flynn, Double Bass; Amelia Freiberger, Voice/Soprano I; Andi Holohan, Voice/Alto I; Justin Lowenhar, Voice/Tenor II; Peter Rocco, Trumpet; Hartley Semmes, Trumpet; Alanna Siegel, Flute; and Andrew Walden, Trombone. The NYSCAME groups will rehearse in early November and deliver a showcase concert on Friday, November 15.

Next are three students who have earned the highest music recognition in New York - a NYSSMA All-State designation. Amelia Freiberger, Hartley Semmes, and Alanna Siegel will join a prestigious group of high school musicians who will rehearse and perform in December at the NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester. Congratulations!

The Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA) has selected six Harborfields students for their All-County Jazz ensembles. Less than 20 students from all across Suffolk County are chosen for each instrumental jazz ensemble. Congratulations to Pat Buffolino, Kyleigh Connors, Jessica Gaizo, Peter Rocco, Hartley Semmes, and Andrew Walden. The ensembles will practice three times before performing at the 2024 All-County Jazz Festival on November 23.

Last, but certainly not least, Ameila Freiberger was recognized with an Award of Merit in Theater from the Long Island Arts Alliance. This award, which is part of the Scholar Artist Awards program, recognizes exceptional students across five disciplines: Visual Arts, Music, Theater, Dance, and Media Arts. We are so proud of you, Amelia!

"We're extremely proud of all of these students," K-12 Music Department Coordinator Dan Bilawsky shared.  "This recognition is a testament to their hard work and the support and guidance they receive from their teachers, families, and the entire Harborfields community."

The Harborfields Music Department along with the entire district congratulate these students on these impressive accomplishments.
