A Salute to our Veterans

Local veterans were honored in heartfelt fashion at the district’s Annual Jazz Cabaret Night, held at Oldfield Middle School on April 3.
The evening began with welcome remarks from Dr. Rory Manning, Superintendent of Schools, followed by a dessert reception and a memorable concert featuring performances by the Harborfields High School Vocal Ensemble and Jazz Band.
Members of the Leadership Class played a special role in the event, serving as greeters, ushers, and table companions. They spent meaningful time engaging with the veterans, listening to stories about their service, and learning about their lives after returning home. The students, all seniors, shared their own post-graduation aspirations. Dr. Manning passed the microphone around the room, giving each veteran the chance to share their name, branch of service, and any reflections they wished to offer.
The performance portion of the night showcased the musical talents of the district. Under the direction of Ms. Clare Jackson, the Vocal Ensemble performed a set of songs that spotlighted standout vocalists. The Jazz Band, led by Mr. Dan Bilawsky, followed with an upbeat program, featuring a variety of instrumental solos and vocal soloist, Ainsley Batsford.
Jazz Cabaret Night is a cherished tradition that not only celebrates music but also provides a powerful opportunity to recognize and thank the veterans in the community. It’s a small but meaningful way for the district to express its deep gratitude for their service and sacrafice.
