Beyond the Classroom with Jazz Band

From sitting in the audience at a legendary New York City jazz club to taking the stage themselves at a regional jazz festival, members of the Harborfields High School Jazz Band recently experienced the many sides of jazz that take place beyond the classroom.
First up, students left Greenlawn and traveled to New York City to see 16-piece jazz orchestra Birdland Big Band perform at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club. It was a great experience for all!
The high school Jazz Band also took part in the LI Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Festival at the Tilles Center. The day included performances, workshops, an adjudication clinic with professional jazz musicians, and the chance to hear and cheer on other talented bands. Congratulations to Outstanding Soloists Kyleigh Connors and Marty Bernstein, and to Best Bass Section members Alec Gerde, Samantha Plosky, Franklin Rathbun, and Nora McCloskey!
These back-to-back opportunities gave students the chance to both enjoy the art form and sharpen their skills alongside professional musicians.
