SCOPE's 25th Annual School District Award Winners

On Monday, March 23, SCOPE Education Services held their 25th Annual School District Awards Dinner, recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to education across Long Island. The Harborfields Central School District was proud to celebrate three remarkable individuals for their dedicated service to students, staff, and the community.
Ms. Jennifer Bavaro, Harborfields Booster Club President was honored with the Outstanding Community Service Award. Mr. Robert Franco, Jr. received the Outstanding Administrator Service Award. Last, but not least, Mr. Augustino “Augie” Rettino, Elementary Teacher at TJL, received the Outstanding Teacher Service Award.
For more than two decades, SCOPE has recognized teachers, support staff, school board members, community members, and administrators for their invaluable contributions to education.
Under Ms. Bavaro’s leadership, the Booster Club has advanced its mission to support athletic programs, clubs, and co- curricular opportunities throughout the district. Through dedicated volunteerism and fundraising, the Club promotes school spirit, strengthens student engagement, and fosters a strong sense of community. Ms. Bavaro has ensured that funds raised are reinvested directly into the district by supporting grant requests, enhancing events, and sustaining programs that might otherwise lack resources. Her commitment to strengthening the connection between academic success and extracurricular involvement has made a lasting impact on students, families, and staff. Ms. Bavaro’s dedication and leadership truly exemplify the spirit of community service.
Mr. Robert Franco is an exceptional leader whose vision, integrity, and passion have significantly strengthened Harborfields’ athletic and physical education programs. He has aligned departmental goals with district priorities, expanded athletic opportunities, and fostered a culture of excellence, inclusion, and student wellness. Under his leadership, programs such as Unified Golf and Bowling, Girls’ and Boys’ Fencing, Girls’ Wrestling, and Girls’ Flag Football have broadened access and engagement for all students. Mr. Franco also established the Athletic Council, enhanced communication through social media and livestreams, and strengthened school spirit and community connection. His commitment to safety, accessibility, and mental health, along with his leadership at the county and state levels, reflects his belief in the power of athletics to inspire and unite.
Mr. Augustino “Augie” Rettino has distinguished himself as an outstanding teacher within the Harborfields Central School District. He has served as a teacher for the past twenty-eight years in our district where he has had an exceptional career enhancing the educational experiences of his students. Mr. Rettino has also served as an outstanding advocate for public schools through his involvement with NYSUT. Through this work, he has engaged with local and State legislators, always seeking to advance legislation in support of students throughout NY State.
“Mr. Rettino’s dedication to his students and children across New York State is commendable,” said Dr. Rory Manning, Superintendent of Schools. “He is a dedicated professional who has gained the respect of students and colleagues. We are so proud of his accomplishments.”
The Harborfields Central School District extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Bavaro, Mr. Franco, and Mr. Rettino on this well-deserved recognition. Their dedication and leadership continue to inspire and enhance the educational experience for the entire school community.
