Mary-Lynn Karpenske Named Model Schools Administrator of the Year

Mary-Lynn Karpenske was named the 2026 Model Schools Administrator of the Year by Western Suffolk BOCES. Mrs. Karpenske is the Director of Technology and Security Systems for the Harborfields Central School District, a role she has held since 2023.
The award honors outstanding administrators who actively contribute to the advancement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and technology integration in their school district.
Since transitioning from the classroom to an administrative position three years ago, Mrs. Karpenske has been an invaluable advocate for the purposeful integration of learning tools. Her selfless leadership and unwavering support of our staff and students have been instrumental to the district’s success. Beyond her instructional impact, her tireless work in strengthening cybersecurity posture and safeguarding student and staff data has been truly monumental.
“This is a well-earned recognition of her energy, talent, and skills,” said Dr. Rory Manning, Superintendent of Schools. “ Her leadership has been transformative, and we are so proud that she has earned this special recognition!”
Additionally, Washington Drive Primary School teacher Holly Gozinsky received a $1,000 Model Schools grant for an instructional unit based on exploring the Harborfields community. In the unit, second-grade students learn about their local community by identifying important places, describing their roles, and explaining how each place contributes to the community. Aligned with the Grade 2 New York State Social Studies Standards, students explore geographic features and community resources, gather information, and communicate their learning through a collaboratively created digital brochure.
Mary-Lynn, Holly, and the other award winners will be recogznied at an awards ceremony on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
