Students Honored by Town of Huntington

On Tuesday, June 9, the Town of Huntington recognized not one, not two, but three groups of students from Harborfields High School for their commitment to athletics, academics, civics, and service.
First up was a ceremony recognizing scholar athletes across the township. “Being a scholar athlete means you refused to compromise, said Supervisor Ed Smyth during the ceremony’s opening. “You didn’t choose between academic rigor and athletic competition. You chose mastery of both.” The two scholar athletes from Harborfields were Riley Lyons and Leo Lin, Class of 2026 valedictorian. Their exceptional accomplishments in academics and athletics earned them recognition among the township’s top scholar athletes.
Next up, the town held a ceremony where students aspiring to military service were recognized. Seniors Liam O’Hanlon and Alex Regeer-Gharachorloo were among the honorees. Liam will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy, and Alex will be participating in the Navy’s ROTC program at Cornell University. We thank them both for their future service to our nation!
Last, but not least, during a meeting of the Town of Huntington, Harborfields High School’s Social Justice ambassadors, Aubree Kuhn and Mariana Cortes Morales, were recognized. The Social Justic Ambassadors consist of students from each high school within the Town who meet throughout the year to discuss social issues facing students today. They also design programs to bring back to their schools to improve the sense of community between students.
