December Is a Time for Meaningful Moments!
I love visiting our schools in December because the energy and joy radiating through the halls truly capture the magic of this special time of year! What makes it even more meaningful is when that joy extends into our community, too. Members of the high school's HACO Club and the Rho Kappa Honor Society brought that same spirit to Paumanack Village, where they spent time with residents, created a festive craft together, and delivered a generous collection of toiletries donated by our school community. This visit is just one of the many ways our students and staff give back throughout the year, and it fills me with deep gratitude to work in such a special place. Click the picture below to see more.
 Huntington Youth Court Induction
Congratulations to Riley Burns, Yoselin Benitez Almendares, Porter Coleman, George D'Arensbourg-Wu, Taylor Hand, Ryan Hernandez, Benjamin Guddemi, Brayden Perry, Kelvin Semmes, Ava Spardel, and Sohum Vaish, who are the newest volunteers serving on the Huntington Youth Court at Huntington’s Youth Bureau. The student volunteers have undergone six weeks of training, learning the roles of judge, jury, advocate, and bailiff, and even completing a "bar exam." Now that they are sworn in, they are ready and able to step into these roles during real cases involving youth respondents within the community. We are so proud of your dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving others in a meaningful way!

Business Department Contest Winners

They were challenged to demonstrate their business skills and knowledge through a series of business-related scenarios and topics. Congratulations to all the participants, including the following winners:

Heart Screen Awareness Game
Calling all HF families… Wear red and support the Boys Basketball team at their Heart Screening Awareness fundraiser on Friday, December 19 at 5:00 p.m. The game will feature a bake sale organized by senior Michael Secko, and the HF Booster Club will raffle off a Yeti backpack cooler. All proceeds raised will be donated to Heart Screen NY!
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. It strikes people of all ages who may seem to be healthy, even children and teens. SCA affects more than 356,000 people each year in the US, including 7,000-23,000 under the age of 18. One in 300 children has an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk. Thank you, Michael, for raising awareness around such a meaningful cause!
Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:
Harborfields High School:
In the Project Lead The Way: Introduction To Engineering Design class, students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. During their most recent project, students used the 3D printer to make luggage tags that were designed with their unique personality in mind. Click the picture below to see some of the amazing work of our PLTW engineers!
Oldfield Middle School: National Junior Honor Society members shared the spirit of giving by donating cookies to HACO for holiday meals and creating thoughtful cards for patients at St. Catherine’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School: Fifth-grade student musicians shined in two wonderful concert performances! From the beautiful work of the orchestra with Mr. Rinaldi, to the recorder club and chorus led by Ms. Drzewiecki, and the energetic band performance with Ms. Kassinger, the students filled the auditorium with music, joy, and holiday spirit. Bravo, musicians!

Washington Drive Primary School: Kindergarten students in Mrs. Palma and Mrs. Choi’s classes worked to understand what the setting of a story is! This fun and educational activity brought them together as a class and in small groups to determine the setting of stories they’ve read this year!
