Superintendent's Message

I had the honor of attending a ceremony at Huntington Town Hall where students aspiring to military service were recognized.  Seniors Liam O’Hanlon and Alex Regeer-Gharachorloo were among the honorees.  Liam will be attending the US Naval Academy, and Alex will be participating in the Navy’s ROTC program at Cornell University.  We thank them for their future service to our nation!

Happy Flag Day!

Today, our nation celebrates Flag Day, a time to reflect on the enduring symbol of our country and the ideals of freedom, unity, and democracy that our flag represents. This year's observance is especially meaningful as we continue to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across Harborfields, students have been exploring the people, events, and principles that shaped our nation through a variety of classroom lessons, projects, discussions, and special activities connected to the semi-quincentennial celebration. These experiences help our students better understand the sacrifices, aspirations, and shared values that continue to define our country 250 years later.

As part of this important commemoration, we remind and encourage all Harborfields families to take advantage of the Long Island 250th Passbook that was provided to every student in the district. The passbook offers a wonderful opportunity to visit historic sites throughout Suffolk County and learn more about the significant role our local community played in our nation's history. Students who visit all fifteen designated locations within the Town of Huntington and collect the required stamps will receive a special proclamation from the Town and be recognized at a future Board of Education meeting. As we continue our district-wide celebration of America's 250th anniversary, I hope families will enjoy exploring these sites together and creating lasting memories while gaining a deeper appreciation for our local and national history.

Hunting-Tony’s
Thank you to Dr. Dave Bennardo, Huntington Town Councilman and Huntington Town Councilwoman Theresa Mari for bringing the Broadway magic back to Harborfields for this year's Hunting-Tony's! This annual awards program celebrates excellence in high school theater throughout the Town of Huntington.  We are so proud of all our nominees and congratulate our winners: Eurydice for Best Scenery in a Play and Chicago for Best Technical Production Musical in Sound! Way to go!

Social Justice Ambassadors Recognized

Members of Harborfields High School’s Social Justice Ambassadors were recognized at a recent meeting of the Town of Huntington.  The Social Justice Ambassadors consist of groups of students from each high school within the Town who meet throughout the year to discuss social issues facing students today, and they also design programs to bring back to their schools to improve the sense of community between our students.  Pictured below are Aubree Kuhn and Mariana Cortes Morales.

Town of Huntington Scholar Athletes

“Being a scholar athlete means you refused to compromise, said Supervisor Ed Smyth during this year’s Scholar Athlete ceremony’s opening at Huntington Town Hall. “You didn’t choose between academic rigor and athletic competition. You chose mastery of both.” This year’s scholar athletes from Harborfields are Class of 2026 Valedictorian Leo Lin and Riley Lyons. Their exceptional accomplishments in academics and athletics earned them recognition among the township’s top scholar athletes. Congratulations, Riley and Leo!

Robotics Competes at the National Level

The high school robotics team was headed to Kentucky for an incredible opportunity to compete, connect, and explore the world of engineering beyond the classroom. We are excited to report that the team returned with new skills, new experiences, and some well-earned recognition. They did a great job competing at a whole new level, winning two awards from fellow teams, and even lent a helping hand to a team from Kazakhstan!

This trip was an unforgettable experience for our students, and we must thank Mrs. Scarth and the families who helped make this new venture possible!

Schools Closed

This is a gentle reminder that all schools will be closed on Friday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth as indicated on the school calendar.

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:

Harborfields High School

Seniors from the Class of 2026 strutted to TJL for the annual Senior Walk. Students and staff were outside waiting with signs and congratulatory cheers! This year, seniors also visited Washington Drive where they paired up with kindergarten buddies to walk the halls of their first Harborfields school. A full circle experience for our seniors as they prepare for their next chapter!

Oldfield Middle School

During the social studies department’s spirit week, OMS band students brought patriotic tunes to the halls in celebration of America's upcoming 250th birthday! Other activities included patriotic dress-up days, landmarks and monuments trivia, and name that patriotic tune! A fun week making the semiquincentennial memorable for all!

Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School

Fifth graders had an amazing time at their annual Luau! From the music and dancing to ices and custom-made hats, it was a night our students will never forget. A huge thank you to the PTA for planning and organizing such a wonderful event. We’re so grateful for the memories made and the community spirit that makes TJL such a special place.

Washington Drive Primary School

At Salad Day, students had the opportunity to taste the vegetables they helped grow in our indoor and outdoor gardens. It was a wonderful day of healthy eating, learning where food comes from, and trying new things! A special thank you to Kelly Harley for helping bring this project to Washington Drive, Ethan Ambrosio for building our garden boxes, our PTA for coordinating donations, and our school community for generously donating salad dressings. Your support helped make this meaningful experience possible for our students. We are so proud of our young gardeners and all they accomplished this year!
