Board of Education

Harborfields Central School District

Board of Education

The Harborfields Board of Education is made up of seven residents of the community who serve staggered three-year terms, without compensation, as your representatives in all matters concerning the school district. Board elections are held annually in the spring. The Board has its own bylaws, which have been developed within the bounds of legal authority granted to local boards by the State of New York. Regular business meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month in the auditorium of the Oldfield Middle School, and are noted on the school calendar. Board meetings begin at 7:45 p.m. Community members are welcome at meetings and time is reserved on the agenda for public comment.

 2024-2025 BOARD OF EDUCATION GOALS

The Board of Education is committed to fulfill the mission of the Harborfields Central School District to provide an innovative and collaborative learning environment where all students are empowered to realize their unique potential while striving for academic excellence. Harborfields is committed to developing life-long learners with the intellectual, social, and emotional skills necessary to achieve success as active citizens within their local community and in an ever-changing diverse global society.

  • The Board of Education, in collaboration with the Superintendent and his team, will:

    • Ensure the support and appreciation for all members of the community by allocating resources to implement programs outlined in the District-created Anti-Bias Curriculum Handbook and the recommendations of the Anti-Bias Advisory Committee.
    • Share the story of our One Harborfields Family through a comprehensive internal and external communication strategy, showcasing the work of our exceptional students and staff to the community and a wider audience.
  • The Board of Education, in collaboration with the Superintendent and his team will:

    • Explore and identify K-12 programming opportunities that will allow students to apply their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills to interdisciplinary research projects in support of their continued success in high school and in their post-secondary endeavors.
    • Analyze current programming in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) to identify pathways for enhancement and to ensure alignment with student needs and interests.
    • Evaluate additional opportunities to provide a comprehensive approach to health and wellness education that will further empower students with the knowledge and skills to make healthy decisions.
  • The Board of Education, in collaboration with the Superintendent and his team will:

    • Implement and support the security and facilities enhancements provided through the work of the 2024 Capital Bond Referendum.
    • Provide continued examination of both long and short-term expenditures to mitigate the budgetary impact of costs associated with Child Victims Act litigation on future student programming.
    • Support all students through continued legislative advocacy to ensure increased State Aid funding and common-sense reforms of unfunded mandates and other legislative actions.
    • Safeguard the protection of district resources through the continuation of established risk management audits of internal controls and implementing proactive measures to mitigate potential external vulnerabilities.
