Guidelines for Nomination and Selection of the Harborfields High School Hall of Fame Criteria For Nomination and Selection of The Induction Class

In order to maintain the integrity of the Hall of Fame, nominees must:

  • Exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character.
  • All candidates will be judged on their significant and/or long-term contributions to Harborfields Athletics.
  • Inaddition, as much as possible, acknowledged leadership in his/her chosen field or community, state, and national presence will be considered.
  • Candidates may be nominated as a player, a coach, a team, or an honorary contributor by anyone.
  • Candidates may not nominate themselves.
  • All entries must be submitted on the official Harborfields High School Athletic Hall of Fame Nomination Form by August 1st the inaugural year then by April 15th each year after.
  • The nominations can be made online on the district website, under Athletics. Or you can click here to print and submit a physical nomination form to the athletic office.
  • Any person/team who was nominated, but was not selected to the Hall of Fame bi-annually, will have their nomination form kept on file to be reviewed biannually for ten years for possible future consideration.

Consideration by Title

In order for candidates to be considered they must meet the following minimum criteria. Any person/team who was nominated, but was not selected to the Hall of Fame bi-annually, will have their nomination form kept on file to be reviewed biannually for ten years for possible consideration in the future.

Nomination as a Player

In order for nominations to be considered they must meet the following minimum criteria. A Hall of Fame candidate shall not be considered for the Hall of Fame until six years after graduation from Harborfields High School.

(1) Any athlete who distinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics while a student at Harborfields High School above and beyond the normal standards.

  • A) This could include establishing individual school, conference, state, or national records or championships.
  • B) Recognized as a post-season honoree.

(2) An athlete not so honored for high school achievements, but who participates in college and gains honors at this level or beyond, may be considered by the Hall of Fame Committee

Nomination as a Coach

A former coach with at least five (5) years of service at Harborfields High School who has contributed to the success of Harborfields High School athletes over a period of years may be considered a candidate for the Hall of Fame.

Nominations as a Team

Hall of Fame candidates (team) shall not be considered for the Hall of Fame until six years after graduation from Harborfields High School.

(1) Any team who distinguished themselves in the field of athletics while participating in interscholastic athletics at Harborfields High School above and beyond the normal standards.

  • A) This could include establishing team school, conference, state, or national records or championships.
  • B) Recognized as a post-season honoree.

Nominations as an Honorary Inductee

An individual who has made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletic programs at Harborfields Central School District. Required Criteria

A) Required:

  1.  Individual students must have graduated at least six (6) years prior from Harborfields High School.
  2. Teams must have been at least ten (10) years prior
  3. Retired coach with at least five (5) years of coaching at Harborfields High School
  4. Positively represented Harborfields High School both in and out of sports

Selection of Individual Players

The Hall of Fame selection committee may choose to select individual athletes for induction into the Harborfields High School Athletic Hall of Fame biannually. All inductees must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Candidates must have graduated at least six years ago from Harborfields High School.
  • Musthavedistinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics while a student at Harborfields High School above and beyond the normal standards.
    • A) This could include establishing individual school, conference, state, or national records or championships.
    • B) Recognized as a post-season honoree.
  • An athlete not so honored for high school achievements, but who participates in college and gains honors at this level or beyond, may also be inducted by the Hall of Fame Committee with a 2/3 majority vote.

Selection of Coaches

The Hall of Fame selection committee may choose to select a coach and or coaches for induction into the Harborfields High School Athletic Hall of Fame. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, coaches must have coached for a minimum of five years with the Harborfields School District. The coach must be retired at the time of induction. They may have led their team to a county championship, regional championships, and state tournament appearances. They must have positively represented Harborfields High School both in and out of sports.

Selection of Teams

The Hall of Fame selection committee may choose to select teams for induction into the Harborfields High School Athletic Hall of Fame. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, teams must somehow have distinguished themselves above and beyond the normal standards. These may include county championships, regional championships, and state tournament appearances. The Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall select not more than one team in any two years and may choose not to select any team.

Selection of Honorary Inductees

The Hall of Fame selection committee may choose to select a person(s) to be inducted as an honorary member when their significant contributions to Harborfields Athletics do not qualify under the other categories.

  • The inductee must have made significant contributions to Harborfields Athletics agreed upon by the committee in a 2/3 majority
  • The inductee must have demonstrated loyalty, pride, and dedication to Harborfields Central School District.
  • Does notqualify under any of the other categories. *Could be an athlete/coach/administrator

Induction

After selection to the Hall of Fame, the new members will be inducted at a ceremony during the fall season. Each Honoree will be presented with a Hall of Fame plaque during the induction ceremony. Their name(s) will be added to the Hall of Fame in the Hall of Fame hallway outside the North Gymnasium. There will be a reception before the induction ceremony for all Hall of Fame members at Harborfields High School.
