The first day of February was just yesterday, but there was so much packed into the day. I started off my morning by attending a Legislative Program with our Board of Education. The program included school officials and their Boards of Education from across Suffolk County where State representatives fielded questions on a wide range of topics. I continue to thank our Board of Education for their continued advocacy for our Harborfields Family and for public education in New York State.
Late yesterday morning, our athletic department, under the leadership of Mr. Robert Franco, hosted a heart health screening available to all student-athletes. Keeping our athletes safe remains a priority for the district and we were proud to partner with the Acompora Foundation and the Dominic Murray Foundation to bring this service to our school at no cost. I would like to thank Mr. Franco, our coaches, and all of our families who participated in this wonderful event.

Finally, the Harborfields Council of PTAs hosted their annual Harborfields’ Got Talent Show (formerly the Variety Show) last night at Harborfields High School. This special Harborfields tradition serves to raise funds for student scholarships while showcasing the amazing talent we have in our community. The night was filled with special performances from students, staff, and families. Kudos to the Harborfields Council of PTAs, Ms. Kassinger, the show's director, and to all of our outstanding performers!

Lunar New Year Festivities Brighten our Buildings!
All schools throughout the district celebrated Lunar New Year with a festive spirit and a deep dive into its rich traditions. Students engaged in hands-on learning, exploring cultural artifacts, artwork, and games that allowed them to discover the significance of this holiday. Festivities included traditional foods like dumplings, a symbol of wealth and prosperity. In classrooms, students embraced the holiday by learning to say “Happy New Year” in Chinese, discovering their fortunes, and taking part in fun challenges like constructing the longest paper chain snake and crafting lanterns and paper dragons. Some schools even passed out red envelopes, symbolizing good luck for the year ahead. From lively parades to creative classroom activities, our students celebrated the Year of the Snake with a sense of joy and community, making the holiday a meaningful and memorable experience for all!
Black History Month Celebration - This Thursday!
Our much anticipated Black History Month Celebration is almost here! We are so excited to welcome back Ms. Cheryl Wills as this year’s keynote speaker. At last year’s celebration, Ms. Wills shared the remarkable story of her efforts to locate the remains of her great, great, great-grandfather and Civil War Veteran, Sandy Wills. This year, Ms. Wills will share the latest developments in her search for the remains of her Civil War ancestor. There will also be performances representing students from each of our buildings. I hope you can join us on February 6th at 7:00 PM at Harborfields High School to hear from Ms. Wills and to see the outstanding performances from our students.
